Featured below are the biographies of the artists who are currently displaying their work at the Greater Richmond Convention Center

Watercolors by Liz

Born in the Shenandoah Valley, Elizabeth Wooten was surrounded by mountains, caverns, waterfalls and cultivated fields. It is no wonder these images appear in her works. Liz has been teaching watercolor classes for over 15 years, and is a signature member of the Virginia Watercolor Society, as well as the Bon Air Artists Association. Her enthusiasm tends to lie with non-objective painting because she finds it “new and challenging to throw paint on clean white paper and develop whatever presents itself.”

Charles Lee, III

Charles Lee, III hails from Petersburg, Virginia. He is a graduate of Virginia Union University, Richmond, Virginia and Radford University, Radford, Virginia. As a child, Mr. Lee was an avid “picture taker” with his Polaroid camera. He completed several grade school projects using slide photography and other mediums. He also captured family moments using 8 mm film. Today, the artist enjoys photography with his Nikon camera and promoting his mainstream fiction novels which are set in Richmond, Virginia and the surrounding locales.

Laurie Pyszkowski

Richmond-based artist, Laurie Pyszkowski, specializes in one-of-a-kind silk art, primarily making unique and colorful silk scarves.

Laurie acquired her passion for art from her commercial artist mother, Carol Kent. Much of what she is inspired to paint comes from her childhood memories summering on Swans Island – a tiny island off the cost of Maine where her grandmother was the island nurse. Her favorite themes for painting reflect beach and ocean motifs.

Laurie is a member of the Bon Air Artist Association and a member of Silk Painters International (SPIN). She resides in Midlothian, Virginia with her husband and two children.

verykathy

Kathleen Zehr Nussbaum, author and artist, is proprietor of verykathy, an enterprise devoted to the proliferation of a handmade life…lived with authenticity and beauty. Kathy’s whimsical and clever creations are inspired by a diverse and ever-evolving field. Some of these influences include Astrid Lindgren, Jane Austen, Coco Chanel, Jungian Scholars, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Marian Woodman and Patricia Lynn Reilly (Imagine a Woman).

Kathy enjoys collecting and recycling thrift and vintage materials for collage and assemblage art, illustrated journaling and dress making. Kathy especially enjoys making doll heads with opinions, the seminal work that led to her first book, Millicent the Magnificent: the Real Life of a Former Doll Head, available at www.lulu.com. Celeste Miller

After nearly 25 years in “Corporate America”, Celeste Miller retired to pursue her creative side.  Her chemical engineering background and love for “process” attracted her to stained glass, glass mosaics and fused glass. Her glass education and experience is a result of working for a local stained glass studio for the past six years.

Celeste’s desire to do more with fused glass led to a certification in Precious Metal Clay (PMC) several years ago.  She loves to combine dichroic fused glass with Precious Metal Clay to create unique pieces that always receive compliments.

Learning chain maille became a “must” when Celeste's PMC students expressed a desire to make charm bracelets for their fine silver pieces. She took a number of classes in chain maille and became “addicted” to the ancient art.  Her chain maille pieces are handcrafted from sterling silver and/or gold filled jumprings. The jumprings are opened and closed so they can be linked together in a pattern to create a beautiful pair of earrings, a bracelet or necklace.

Celeste currently teaches classes in Precious Metal Clay, chain maille, stained glass, fused glass and glass mosaics in Richmond and the surrounding area.  When not teaching, Celeste and her husband enjoy their two rescue dogs, learning new skills and traveling.

Glittermoon Cards by Cackie Trippe McCarty

Cackie Trippe McCarty loves cards. She loves looking at them in shops, picking out the perfect one to send someone. She has a stash of cards she loves so much that she cannot bear to part with them. Cackie has been known to mat and frame cards she particularly adores.

Cackie’s love affair with cards goes back to her childhood. Her Aunt Marnie had a shop in her hometown on the Eastern Shore of Maryland: the Wayside Gift Shop. There were wonderful cards in their inventory and she spent a lot of time there. She loved being there, helping out, and learning the business. By the time Cackie got to college, art was what she wanted to pursue. While studying for her degree in art history, she became passionate about photography. Here, at last, was the medium through which Cackie could truly express herself.

Cackie has been making cards for her friends and family for years. People kept telling her: “You should sell your cards.” And so, in the fall of 2009, Glittermoon Cards was born.

Cackie’s mission is to spread the love one card at a time.
A card in every mailbox.
A smile on every face.

Water Gypsy Jewelry by Beverly Binns

I have an affinity for the old, broken, forgotten things of another era, other people’s castoffs. Broken bits at the bottom of a box, drawer, or jewelry chests have always fascinated me. Objects fascinate me. They are the direct and tangible manifestation of any culture.

I have always loved the past and history. My entire family is highly imaginative and creative. It is no surprise my career path has been an unconventional one, archaeologist, antique dealer and artist.

My other affinity is for the water, preferably salt water.

“You will never discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose site of the shore.” English proverb

Water Gypsy can be found on Facebook or contacted at watergypsy@comcast.net.

Ellen Maroney

Ellen Maroney spent the entire summer as an intern with the GRCC Sales and Marketing Department. Her creative spirit is evident in these photos taken abroad during her world travels. She enjoys capturing beauty in every moment whether it’s happening high above the fall landscape in a hot air balloon or observing a castle in France from a far. This is only a sampling of Ellen’s collection. Please contact our Marketing Manager for pricing and contact information.
