Community Involvement

At Spectra, we have a proud tradition of community investment and a commitment to making a difference. Each year, GRCC team members donate time and energy to support local charities and give back to the Greater Richmond community.

Examples of community activities include the following:

Virginia Blood Services Blood Drives

The GRCC partners with Virginia Blood Services to hold several blood drives at the center during the year. Each year, about 50 people donate regularly and the resulting units are calculated to help 125 patients.

Lee National Denim Day

Lee National Denim Day supports breast cancer research. Staff donate to the American Cancer Society and wear jeans to work. Donations support ACS breast cancer programs and services.

FeedMore Richmond Food Bank

The GRCC staff work in conjunction with FeedMore to prepare meals for the Meals on Wheels program. Volunteers organize donations, work in the kitchens and prepare meals for delivery. Canned foods are also collected for FeedMore at the GRCC’s annual client holiday party.

Richmond Public Schools Job Shadowing

Students from local schools visit the GRCC throughout the year to learn about the hospitality industry. Staff members talk about their roles and how to start a career in the event and hospitality industry. Students tour the facility and have lunch in the food court.

YMCA Bright Beginnings

The Greater Richmond Convention Center partners with the YMCA of Greater Richmond and Target to shop with local elementary and middle school students for their back-to-school supplies. Volunteers pair with students to shop and share a meal.

Giving Heart Thanksgiving Community Feast

The Greater Richmond Convention Center welcomes the Giving Heart organization each year for a free Thanksgiving feast, open to anyone in the community.

Junior Achievement's JA Finance Park

Junior Achievement of Central Virginia helps prepare today's students for a bright future. JA brings volunteer role models from our community into K-12 classrooms to deliver programs that foster work readiness, entrepreneurship and personal finance. Programs employ experiential learning to inspire students to dream big and reach their potential.

GRCC staff volunteer with JA Finance Park, a program for middle and high school students that teaches personal financial skills in areas such as budgeting, savings, retirement planning, credit history and more.

National Wear Red Day

The Greater Richmond Convention Center encourages staff to participate in the National Wear Red Day to raise awareness and fund the fight against heart disease and stroke in women. The initiative supports educational programs to increase women’s awareness and critical research to discover scientific knowledge about cardiovascular health.
